Pastor Derrick E. Young and his wife Gale are high school sweethearts from Gary, Indiana. They have two children, Daris Young and Amari (Young) Berry, a son-in-law, Keon Berry and a granddaughter, Zaria Berry.

Our Pastor served in our military for 15 years before he became medically separated in 1999 with an Honorable Discharge. He received his calling to the ministry on February 19, 2001. He faithfully served as the Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Oceanway where he was also ordained on August 17, 2003. It was here that he felt the call to return to school to become better equipped to serve Jesus Christ in His Kingdom.

Our Pastor received a B.A. in Biblical Studies from The Baptist College of Florida in 2007. He continued his education at Liberty University thereby earning a Master of Arts and Religion in 2008 and a Master of Divinity in 2010.

While at Liberty he began working on his Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). He completed one unit of CPE as an intern while working for the State of Florida. While he was faithfully serving the State and being a full time student, God opened the doors during his last year of seminary and he was accepted into a one year Chaplain Residency Program at Baptist Health / Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.

As God’s blessings continued to reign on our pastor, he was called to St. Vincent’s Health Care System at the end of his residency. To further his calling, Pastor Young began preparing to present to the Board of Chaplaincy an affiliation of the Association of Professional Chaplains. On November 14, 2014 God blessed Pastor’s studies and he became a Board Certified Chaplain.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1439729001567{background-color: #7f53a1 !important;}”][vc_column][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1439684501086{margin-right: 50px !important;margin-left: 50px !important;padding-top: 35px !important;padding-bottom: 35px !important;}”][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text el_class=”white-text”]

Who is Unity?

Unity was launched on June 29, 2010 in the Young’s home with 17 faithful people. Worshiping in the Young’s home until August 29, 2010, Unity grew spiritually and numerically. On September 5, 2010 Unity was blessed to launch their service in a new location; in a strip mall at 716 New Berlin Rd in Jacksonville, Fl. 32218. While remaining faithful to our Lord, Jesus Christ and serving the Oceanway community the church continued to grow and was blessed to purchase their existing property on June 20, 2014. On the 3.79 acres an 800 sq. ft. existing construction was expanded and renovated to 2,100 sq. ft. As Unity continues to serve Jesus Christ and the Oceanway community we are experiencing both spiritual and numerical growth. Unity consists of Teams which make- up one ministry. Keeping the collaborating identity Unity continues to be a great place to connect to God, friends and family.

May God’s grace be upon you!
Derrick E. Young, Pastor
